Lectors (Readers)

The mission of the Lectors Ministry is to proclaim the scriptures in such a way that the power inherent in God's Word is revealed to those who hear. In proclaiming the Word of God, the Lector announces Christ’s message of God’s love, so as to enable those attending Mass to not only understand the Word, but to also want to live it and share it with others. As lectors, we seek to ever deepen our understanding and devotion to scripture, both in our personal lives and in the ongoing life of the parish community.
During the Mass, God speaks to His people, gathered at a particular time and place. For each of us gathered to hear his Word, each will hear the message uniquely, as the Holy Spirit touches each soul. It is a miracle of transformation. To work this miracle, God has chosen instruments: He uses READERS. When a Readers reads the scripture, it is as if the book disappears. The Reader is the mouthpiece of God. God uses the voice of the Reader to say something modern. Even as the words are old, the proclamation is always new.
Readers understand the mission of their work. To prepare for each liturgy, the Readers reads the scripture ahead of time to establish a personal encounter with the word of God. It is from this encounter, through the Reader, that the people of God may also encounter the divine Word.
For more information on becoming a Reader, contact St. Anthony Parish Office at 530-795-2230.
